MW Mobile Blog

For friends, family and the random search engine visitor. This blog started as an experiment in mobile blogging from my Palm TREO 600, 700, Prē, HTC Evo, Samsung 5, Pixel 3, Pixel 6 Pro. Now it serves as a simple repository of favorite activities. Expect bad golf, good fishing, great sailing, eating, drinking, adventure travel, occasional politics and anything else I find interesting along the way including, but not limited to, any of the labels listed here...

Senegal send-off

We check out of the hotel. Henri has arranged for his driver to pick us up and take us to his home – the historical “white house” across the street from the Senegal State Assembly building. There we are joined by Anta, Marcelle, and her daughter for a wonderful Senegalese feast that Henri has prepared. Shrimp salad served in pineapple halves, Yassa Pesce, with a variety of sauces, and cooked vegetables, "Saddam Hussein" variety hot peppers, finished with tarts and gelato for dessert. All accompanied by French red wine, cognac and coffee. Henri gifts Sigrid with a wonderful child's mask from Nigeria. We don't know why we are the beneficiaries of such extraordinary hospitality, but are very grateful. After lunch the driver takes us to the airport and guides us through airport ticketing and security. We are on our way to Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.

On the drive to the airport, I see this huge billboard. Can someone explain to me why the iconic "Marlboro Man" image would sell cigarettes in 80% Islamic Senegal, where no one wears a cowboy hat?
