Ron Paul - rock star

I like the guy and I like the message, but I've got to say - I don't quite get it.

OTOH... I'm here.

Ron Paul Speaks

Breaking: He is against the wars, against the Fed, against insane spending, against inflating fiat currency and for gold.

Welcoming Ron Paul

No question, he is the big draw. He got the biggest applause and most enthusiastic greeting.

Not sure if this video clip will upload properly from here. If not I'll fix it later.

Paraphrased:

"If you are for limited government on economic issues, you can't be for big government policing the world... They are totally inconsistent." - RP

"I'm John Dennis and I am running against Nancy Pelosi"

He sounds far more libertarian than Republican.  I don't think Nancy is too worried.

Matt Gonzales speaks

Looks like he's dropped a few pounds and sporting a beard. It's a good look...

Paraphrased:

"We've now had two presidents from two parties who have continued a commitment to these wars.."

"The left and the right agree on three points that should be a litmus test for incumbents.... Withdraw from Iraq and Afghanistan, stop the erosion of civil liberties, end the unfettered Fed power..."

Testing... Testing... Is this thing on?

Walking down Polk to Civic Center noted this USA Today headline - Party in power could be in peril"... Seemed apropos.

Live Blogging Ron Paul Rally in San Francisco - maybe

I made a contribution to Ron Paul's campaign in 2007 during one of his ground-breaking "money bombs" and have been on his e-mail and phone list ever since. They notified me (again and again) that he will be in town for a rally today. Looks like it is intended to support Republican John Dennis' quixotic campaign to unseat Nancy Pelosi. Talk about tilting at windmills. Ralph Nader's 2008 Green Party V.P. running mate Matt Gonzalez is also scheduled to appear.

Anyway, I think I will make my way down to the Civic Center this afternoon to check it out. Depending on what I find and subject to the constraints of technology and cell phone coverage, I may do some live blogging. Stay tuned...
