MW Mobile Blog

For friends, family and the random search engine visitor. This blog started as an experiment in mobile blogging from my Palm TREO 600, 700, Prē, HTC Evo, Samsung 5, Pixel 3, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL. Now it serves as a simple repository of favorite activities. Expect bad golf, good fishing, great sailing, eating, drinking, adventure travel, occasional politics and anything else I find interesting along the way including, but not limited to, any of the labels listed here...

Bob out of the trap on 18th hole

Very tough lie, but he got out. Barely.

He completed  double bogey to finish with an 87.

Rick and I each won 5 holes in our match play, and pushed the rest. In a gesture of sportsmanship and compromise that we hope will be an example to the rest of the country, we decided to shake hands, call it a tie, and buy our own beers.

Since it was match play our actual scores were irrelevant.

Traditional 17th Tee Portrait

On a spectacular sunny day like this, we will often find tourists and hikers on the 17th tee admiring the view and taking pictures of the bridge. I decided to gather them all together for today's selfie.

Bob found having a gallery to be inspirational. He drove his ball pin high to 12 feet. Probably his best drive ever on this hole. Missed the birdie but he got the par.

I have often said that if Rick beat me at golf I would have to give up the game. Fortunately we are competing on match play instead of medal play today, otherwise I might be at serious risk of giving up the game after this round. So while the score is interesting it's not really relevant.

Solar Pyramid Power Convergence on the 8th Tee

Brilliant sunshine and clear skies led to some interesting effects.

Here we are apparently receiving messages being beamed directly to us from the top of the Transamerica Pyramid, with Mount Diablo in the background.

Bob's approach on 6...

... after a perfect fade cutting the corner on his drive.

On in regulation,

Two putts for par.

Golf is an easy game when you think about it.

MW on 5th Tee

Can you tell how from this image how far the ball flew into the woods on the right?

We have an unusual situation on the second hole...

Rick has a one stroke lead on the entire group. This is an ominous development

Live blogging Lincoln Park with Rick and Bob

This is the Obscura Day 2016 Memorial Round at Lincoln. Obscura Day, an event promoted by the Atlas Obscura blog, is - like the blog itself -  intended to note and celebrate odd and unusual locales. So what does that have to do with Lincoln Park? This:
"Sitting on the coastal edge of San Francisco, the Lincoln Park Golf Course is one of the loveliest set of links in the area with grand views and lush lawns all around. And in fact it was these same serene qualities that made it the perfect spot for the cemetery that originally sat on the land, remnants of which can still be found haunting the back nine."
The course looks a lot different today than it did in the Atlas Obscura article. It is a Southern California day here in San Francisco. Sunshine, warm, the fairways are mowed, and the greens are fast.

Not sure I know how to play the course under these extreme conditions.

Rick and I have decided to play a Match vs Stroke Play Format. This is significant as I have sworn to give up the game if I ever again lose to Rick in golf.
