MW Mobile Blog

For friends, family and the random search engine visitor. This blog started as an experiment in mobile blogging from my Palm TREO 600, 700, Prē, HTC Evo, Samsung 5, Pixel 3, Pixel 6 Pro. Now it serves as a simple repository of favorite activities. Expect bad golf, good fishing, great sailing, eating, drinking, adventure travel, occasional politics and anything else I find interesting along the way including, but not limited to, any of the labels listed here...

Name that critter.

Driving back on M-35 between Gladstone and Gwinn. Saw these guys strolling along the shoulder of the road by the edge of the woods. Had to double back to try and get a closer look. Two adults and three chicks. It looked bigger than a blue heron and - not blue. My Olympus was not in reach so only got lower quality shots with the droid.  I don't recall ever seeing a bird like this up here. Guesses in the comments.

It's a sandhill crane. I'm surprised you haven't seen them before. They're quite common alongsides and in open areas. I heard they're quite tasty.
